Kent es un condado ceremonial de Inglaterra. A efectos de gobierno local está dividido en doce distritos no metropolitanos —Ashford, Canterbury, Dartford, Dover, Gravesham, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Folkestone and Hythe, Swale, Thanet, Tonbridge and Malling y Tunbridge Wells— bajo el control de sus respectivos ayuntamientos y del condal, así como una autoridad unitaria —Medway—. Una parte o la totalidad de ellos está dividida en entidades menores conocidas como parroquias civiles. Según las estimaciones realizadas a mediados de 2007, el 92,7% del área controlada por el ayuntamiento condal estaba dividida en 306 parroquias donde vivían unos 818 750 habitantes (58,7%). Medway tenía otras 11 que ocupaban el 65,2% de su superficie y en las que habitaban unas 31 740 personas (12,6%).[1]
