La 36.ª entrega de los Premios Independent Spirit tuvo lugar el jueves 22 de abril de 2021 en Santa Mónica, California, Estados Unidos. Melissa Villaseñor fue la encargada de conducir la ceremonia.^[1] Por primera vez desde su creación, se añadieron las categorías de televisión: Mejor Nueva Serie Guionizada, Mejor Actor de Serie Guionizada, Mejor Actriz de Serie Guionizada, Mejor Reparto y Mejor Serie Documental no Guionizada.^[2]

Los nominados fueron anunciados el pasado 8 de febrero de 2021.^[3]^[4]
