Algunas clasificaciones han incluido Stannomidae en el suborden Astrorhizina[4] del orden Astrorhizida,[5] al rebajar a los xenofióforos a la categoría de superfamilia (superfamilia Xenophyophoroidea) y relacionarlos con este grupo de foraminíferos.
